Saturday 5-22

Only a few miles hike to Sams gap, I finally got some cell reception by the highway and was able to make a few calls. The sun peeked out and allowed me to dry my clothes while chatting on the phone.

Big bald

Before the climb to big bald, the trail went through different terrain. Almost like fields, with good views it was a nice change. The climb was pretty good and when I got on top, it was def worth it. Except maybe some spots, I thought it was the coolest view so far on the trail. I spent a few hours on top of the mountain listening to the radio and enjoying the views.

Bear

I pressed a few miles past the bald, it was a cool evening to hike few extra miles, I really got my 2nd wind and was gliding on the trail. Then a hundred yards ahead I noticed a black spot; at first I thought it was a tree, it was completely still. I clanged my poles and it took off down the trail; this was a huge bear, I clanged my poles again and he took off even further. A few yards past that found a nice and secluded campsite.
