Went up to the cabin for 4th of July with some friends (Nikki, Tom, Kimmy), we decided to take the jeep out for a ride in the Cohuttas. The goal was to drive to Mountain Overlook. We drove past Watson gap, Dyer gap, took 64 towards Three Forks. There are a number of offroad campsites, a short distance from the road. One is before you get to Dyer gap, another is when you are almost by the overlook. Also, 5-6 miles in is the Jacks River Fields campground, its a nice horse campground thats close to a few trail heads.
One of the campsites had a -road closed- sign that didnt close the hole road. The picture of that are below, it was an open field with eerie trees. This was probably one of the more fun obstacles, sketchiest but fun. This is where the realization that your navigator has to have faith in everything you do happened. "You got this!"
We went up about a mile on Flat Top Mountain Firetower Road FS 64A, and turned around.
Next day, Tommy and I took the Jeep out for lunch on the new restaurant on Aska Rd. took the scenic route back to 515. Then at night in the rain, we went to conquer Flat Top Mtn. The trail takes you about 1.5 miles straight to the top, narrow path, the top is a turn around and campsite.
