I landed at 8am, the beginning of London, the UK and my Eurotrip. This is my second time leaving the US in the evening, popping a sleeping pill and waking up in Europe in the AM. Its the way to go and best way to hit the ground running (somewhat rested).
First day there was a Friday and Halloween, and we went hard. The notion that brits dont celebrate Halloween is BS. We found good Indian and partied at Huxton square. This night (my first) ended at 3-4am and it was the right way to start the trip!
Dom's boyfriend Rob is from Sheffield, UK, so he joined us and showed us around, the UK was a blast because it felt like a local was showing us around and it was good to have another dude to offset the strong female energy :)
London / UK left an impression of fun people that love to have a pint at the local pub. I can really get behind that culture, I felt like they welcomed us with open arms, where we drank and ate our way through our stay there.
An exhibit at British museum caught my eye, a local artist took a timeline of a few women and men and the drugs we take from birth to death. The picture w/ 10k pills (or so) is that exhibit. Very thought provoking.
The Indian restaurant, Tayyabs was a great find by Jen, good value and great food! We were also able to get a good work out in, which is a good way to start the trip off as well.
The weather was a little on the bleak side, w/ some spotty rain and English language is hilarious w/ the local jargon. Enjoyed every bit of this country and wish I could have stayed longer.
We also saw Windsor castle (where the queen lives some of the time) and the Tower of London covered in poppies, commemorates those lost in World War I.
Another month and change to go :)
Couple of Take aways
- Pound is freaking expensive
- British museum was a worthwhile experience (Tate not so much)
- Camden Town is the right amount of shady if you like that sort of thing (I loved it!)
Still would like to do;
1. Go inside the Abbey and Buckingham palace
2. Visit Cambridge, Bath and oxford
3. Spend more time in Camden Town
4. See the Imperial war museums (Churchill and others)
5. Spend more time in pubs
